Fourth Safety Alert of FDA on FMT in less than a month

The FDA updates the safety measures for FMT precautions related to SARS-CoV-2 it established on March 23, 2020.

This warning comes after the ones issued on March 12, 2020, updated on March 13, 2020, and on April 6, 2020 in which the FDA already alerted about and set out precautions around the potential transmission of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) and Shigatoxin-producingEscherichia coli (STEC) through FMT.

Less than a year ago (June 13, 2019) the the FDA informed about two cases of immunocompromised patients which had developed invasive infections caused by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli after receiving an FMT from the same donor.
